# Fibroblast

## Definition

Fibroblasts are the primary cells in the dermis responsible for producing collagen, elastin, glycosaminoglycans (like hyaluronic acid), and other components of the extracellular matrix that give skin its structure, firmness, and hydration. These cells are essentially the skin's construction workers — they build and maintain the structural framework that supports the epidermis above.
