    Double Cleansing

    DUB-ul KLEN-zing

    Definition

Double cleansing is a two-step face washing method that originated in Korean and Japanese skincare routines. The first step uses an oil-based cleanser (such as a cleansing oil, balm, or micellar water) to dissolve oil-soluble impurities like sunscreen, makeup, sebum, and pollution particles. The second step uses a water-based cleanser (like a gel, foam, or cream cleanser) to remove any remaining residue, sweat, and water-soluble debris. This method ensures a thorough yet gentle cleanse without the need for harsh scrubbing. Double cleansing is especially beneficial for people who wear sunscreen daily, use makeup, or live in polluted environments. It is typically done as part of an evening routine. People with very dry or sensitive skin may only need the oil-based step or can double cleanse every other day.
